| We headed out to The Highland Light in Truro to see what was what with the former Cape Cod Light. |

| If you like historic lighthouses, this is your winner. George Washington himself authorized it. It went up in 1797, was rebuilt in 1857 and is still putting in work today. Not too shabby for 17,000 of those 1857 dollars. |

| Not only did they have to rebuild it, they had to move it inland, away from the eroding sand cliffs that make up Cape Cod's eastern coastline. In 1996, they moved it inland 450 feet... which is about that far (see photo above). |

| Not only is it Cape Cod's oldest lighthouse, it is the tallest. It is 66 feet tall, or about 10.5 Paul Pierces. |

| Nothing accents Cape Cod's oldest lighthouse more than a Doppler radar ball. If Godzilla ever takes up golf, that is what it will look like before he tees off. To keep it golfy, the inland move of the lighthouse put it within driving range of the golf course. When someone broke the window of the lighthouse with an errant tee shot, the windows were replaced with unbreakable glass... just like George Washington told them to do back in 1797. |
